Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, had a lot to say about dogs, among them these two aphorisms.
Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit,
you would stay out and your dog would go in.
The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man’s.
I think he’d pass Pig in a heartbeat. So would most of us who’ve owned, known and loved dogs.

It's strange your post arrives today. This afternoon, my sister-in-law is sending her dog to heaven. We're all torn up about the necessity, and will miss a part of the family.
Don't forget cats. If there is a heaven and I go there, there will be several cats who will rush up to me. I will break down crying. They will acknowledge my existence (barely) and immediately start making demands. 🙂
