Doofus Of The Day #63

This has to be one of the dumbest stunts I’ve ever heard of.

Police are trying to track down a man filmed skateboarding on a German motorway at 62mph.

A video broadcast on German TV showed him building up speed by holding on to the back of a motorbike before freewheeling for two miles on a steep downhill stretch of the Ulm-Stuttgart motorway where the speed limit is 50mph.

The mystery man, who now faces charges of interfering with traffic safety and endangering motorists, eventually let go and freewheeled at the breakneck speed.

The helmeted figure, wearing a red and white protective suit, was filmed doing 100km/h (62mph) along the 80km/h (50mph) limit stretch.

Thought to be a stuntman, he now faces losing his driving licence and being handed a ‘substantial’ fine if police catch him.

His daring feat was broadcast on German national TV.

Goeppingen police spokesman Uli Stoeckle said: ‘We are particularly concerned about copycats who may imitate the stunt, putting their lives at risk.

‘We put out an all-points bulletin and have received information that gives us useful clues as to who the man may be.’

The film clip, which has surfaced on internet websites, shows several cars escorting the skateboarder, allowing his collaborators to record the event.

The German magazine, Stern, said the man is known in skateboarding circles as a professional stuntman and takes part in international downhill skateboarding competitions.

There are no speed limits on German motorways, known as autobahns, but there are restrictions on many sections, especially steep and dangerous stretches.

This doofus almost deserves to wipe out, playing around like that! Just look at the cars on the road, in the second picture. How do you think one of those drivers would feel if he fell in front of them, and they ran over him? I’ve had a drunk man do that to me, and it’s the worst feeling in the world to feel your car bump and jerk as you go over a human body. (He survived, no thanks to his stupidity, and made a full recovery . . . but it took me a lot longer to get over it!)

I’d love to see our local cops’ reactions if he tried something equally dumb on our roads. I suspect that “unsympathetic” is a useful euphemism!

  1. Ja wohl, pretty risky business dere Hans. Not to condone, but I think the post indicates the cars may be running interference for him.

  2. I could tell you some stories. . .

I have my own Darwin file.. .

Hope the clean up is going well. You need to head on up to one of the blog get togethers up in Indiana. Trying to get your friend Ms. R up here as well. I’d love to finally meet either of you. There’s always a few at the ranch, spare bedrooms and lots of leather couches that make nifty bunks. You and and yours are always welcome.

I hear the cookings pretty good. 🙂
