A big explosion in Australia

Courtesy of Australian reader Snoggeramus, who kindly uploaded these video reports for us, we learn that a truck carrying more than 50 tons of ammonium nitrate (used, among other things, as a component of ANFO) exploded after an accident near a small town in Queensland.

That was an almighty great bang, all right . . . just look at those two utterly demolished reinforced-concrete-and-steel highway bridges.  Even a few 2,000-pound aerial bombs wouldn’t have obliterated them that thoroughly.

According to a news report, the driver of the vehicle managed to get some distance away before it exploded.  He’s quoted as saying to a policeman, “I have got a f—ing headache.”  I bet he did!
