I couldn’t help giggling at this tweet yesterday from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
I can’t help wondering what happened to prompt that tweet. Can any of our readers in Oklahoma enlighten us? If so, please leave a comment. The possibilities appear endless!

Someone must have accidentally sprayed their 'bare necessities'
Well, you see, you spray OFF on yourself to keep bugs away. Now with bear spray you …
Sam, that is just hilarious and is the only answer that makes sense.
Someone sprayed themselves with bear spray to keep the bears away!
ROTFL.
Just quit telling people … let Darwinian selection take its course.
Slightly off topic, apparently a black bear was recently sighted near Utopia, Texas in the southern reaches of the Texas Hill Country. Supposedly a Mexican black bear; a truly undocumented alien. 😁 We may be needing bear spray down here.
Sam nailed it, I think.
Mister and Missus LeftAndLovingIt ventured out of suburbia to experience the wilds of Oklahoma… my question is, did they bring the kids with them? Because if so, I wonder if the kids got it first.
At close range more than half a family of five would get nailed in the initial blast, and from there – my imagination stops.
Amusing bear spray story since it's sort of on topic. We live in grizzly country. Enough so that I'm able to see a grizzly most every year. Bear spray is just part of your kit when you go into the local mountains.
One day a few years ago my nieces daughter came to her crying, can of bear spray in hand. When asked what had happened my grandniece sprayed her mother to show her what she had just done to herself.
As an aside, be careful adjusting your car seat if you have a can of bear spray on the car floor.
Yikes Sherm! Yikes.
We live in Grizzly/ black bear country in Juneau AK as well (mainly Black, but the browns move through sometimes, not that uncommon to see them at work where I am).
Anyway, did the Mendenhall glacier walk Sunday, walking back had a REALLY loud "chuff" at us out of a stand of trees. Bit of a pucker moment.
I had both spray and a 9mm with +P rounds on my side. Bear spray only going about 10-15 feet, makes me want a bigger can more powerful. I test sprayed/shot it Saturday the bear spray (wife did too) and while it's nice, in a full charge, you're going ass over tea kettle if they run you over, spraying and praying or not.
Had that can out and the safety off, reaaaaally quick I'd say, other hand on the pew pew, hand was on that. May have been kids, may have been a sasquatch or just dad gum bear. Very glad not to find out in any way.
Not my story, but man I cant shut up talking bout bears. Friend here at work, doing a bike ride some years ago, in Lemon Creek (which is the "in Town" part of town, but not the "down town" which is Juneau). While riding had a Brown bear burst out of the trees running straight at him. He figured he was dead. He does know his bears. Bear was looking over his shoulder, something scared him out of the trees. They ran into each other, him on bike, (didn't get knocked off, that kind of angle). Bear running. He said that startled the bear too, looked at him not so much even as "up, just looked at me" and he slowed on his bike, bear kept going, waved a paw with 1 claw up, went up a ways, then back into the trees.
He said he went home and changed his shorts and cleaned the bike seat.
Or the 725lb brown killed a nearish us. Admiralty Island has a LOT of big ass bears. And they swim really well.
A: Oklahoma has a lot of black bear in the eastern part of the state(we have alligators in the southeast, too).
B: We have our full share of idiots.
C: "I forgot the Off, I'll bet this keeps bugs off!" would be my guess as to which type led to this.
I recall a story on this subject from a few years back. Idiot didn't bother to read the instructions on the can, and when he encountered a bear, he sprayed himself, instead of the bear. Bear spray is a MUCH stronger formula than any normal anti-mugger pepper spray. That stuff is ~5-10%, and the bear type is ~30%, IIRC. He got, very carefully, trucked off to a hospital.
I have it on good authority that if you spray your inflatable boat to deter the bruin, said bruin will try to eat the boat. I believe there were pics…
The thing about bear spray is that after you spray it, the residue it leaves will actually attract them.
At least that's what I was told when I lived in Alaska
