An amazing escape!


These three photographs have emerged from Minamisanriku, one of the towns most severely affected by the tsunami that struck Japan a few weeks ago. In the first picture, you see some human figures desperately clinging to an antenna tower, and the top of a flight of metal stairs.

The second picture shows the water beginning to recede. You can see that the antenna tower and stairs are actually at the top of a building.

In the final picture, the water has gone down, showing that it was a three-story building (now almost totally destroyed) that had been completely submerged by the tsunami.

How much energy and strength – not to mention desperation! – did it take for those people to climb so high, so quickly, and hold on against that rush of water? The whole building must have been vibrating like a tuning fork! Everyone else in it died . . .
