I’m stunned by a collection of photographs of the latest Paris (alleged) “fashions”. Lady readers, please take a look at these sample pictures and tell me whether you’d wear this crap – or allow anyone you cared about to wear it, for that matter!
More pictures here, for those interested.
I can’t for the life of me imagine anyone with any taste or feminine decorum even dreaming of wearing such utter rubbish! However, I think I’ll show the last two photographs to farmers of my acquaintance. They’re always looking for clothing and accessories to enhance the effectiveness of their scarecrows – and those hats should do very well indeed!

i don’t actually believe these clothes are designed to be worn by “normal” people – i mean, how “normal” do the models look?
However, my favourite one of all is the last one … does it come with field mice?
As one of the distaff side, I would not be caught dead, alive or undead in any of those outfits, nor in most of what is sold as high fashion. Not only are they over priced, unattractive, and untrustworthy in a moderate breeze, that multi-colored coat would probably cause seizures in some observers!
Give this Rubenesque lady flattering classics that are well made and durable, please.
(The next to the last hat does look like one I saw in a Victorian clothing display, though . . .)
Proves that “fashion designers” secretly hate all women…
Perhaps for Halloween?
But one does wonder how the alleged clothing in the first picture holds it’s shape, or indeed holds on.
My understanding is that fashion shows are to clothing what college campuses are to politics: they generate extremes. We see the extremes, are mostly repulsed, but take the few good ideas and then move towards the middle with them. So taking the blue ruffley thing as an example, my first thought is “blech,” but looking further, maybe the actual apparel designers take the gradating colors or add ruffles to a new sleeves or the bottom of a skirt.
They’re all pretty ugly, but the photos with the vegetation growing out of the model’s heads does seem to explain the French government’s thinking processes…
🙂
madmyndi has it about right. They just get so outrageous to outdo each other, and of course the ridiculous press that fawns over it.
A friend of mine use to point out that real fashion trends tend to start with prostitutes, followed by gays then the general public adopts a more cautious version, usually young people. All three groups are looking for the same thing. (no I’m not bashing – just observing like my friend)
come soon Lord.
How can one sit down in the “gowns” of the first picture? And how can any woman with an actual SHAPE wear any of these outfits? Ridiculous.
Time to thin the herd!
Those pics kind of look like they could be business casual for Kalifornia. Especially the last couple.
