Yesterday I published an article about a fanfic development of the ‘Star Wars’ story. A reader e-mailed me today, sending a link to an article in the Los Angeles Times. It reports on the perspective of Gary Kurtz, producer of the first two ‘Star Wars’ films before he parted company with George Lucas.
Kurtz gives a unique perspective on the development of the franchise, particularly the conflict between the art form and its commercialization. He also has many tales of the background to the films, choosing the actors, and how he saw their reception by the public. It’s a very interesting article, and worth reading for those of us who grew up with ‘Star Wars’. Recommended.

Unless Kurtz is selling people the right to make additional Star Wars movies, it's a series, not a franchise.
