Campfire SUCCESS! – too much so!

Last week we saw what happens when one adds too much gasoline to a burn barrel filled with trash. Now comes a similar lesson concerning campfires.

I love how the flame followed the gasoline fumes along the ground, spreading out, and causing a hasty retreat! Perhaps next time a little less enthusiasm (not to mention a little less gasoline) will produce happier results.

  1. I've burned a lot of brush and used railway ties.

-diesel fuel, or even motor oil please; never gasoline

-douse pile, then place fuel container at a safe distance; no dribbles on ground

-light, preferably by tossing lighted wooden kitchen matches

Won't disclose how I learned this
    🙂

  2. I've blown the hair of my arms before by underestimating the time it would take for gas fumes to clear out of the old fuel oil reservoir we used as a burn barrel.
