Doofus Of The Day #445

Today’s award goes to the police in Surrey, England.

Residents in Surrey and Kent villages have been ordered by police to remove wire mesh from their windows as burglars could be injured.

Home owners … have said they are furious that they are being branded ‘criminals’ for protecting their property.

Locals had reinforced their windows with wire mesh after a series of shed thefts but were told by community police officers that the wire was ‘dangerous’ and could lead to criminals claiming compensation if they ‘hurt themselves’.

Surrey Police have defended the move but outraged residents have attacked the force for seemingly trying to protect criminals.

There’s more at the link.

All I can say is, when the law – and law enforcement agencies – protect criminals more than they do the law-abiding, as seems to be the case here, then the law is indeed an ass!

Anyone trying to break into my shed is likely to encounter a rather more effective deterrent than window mesh. In fact, he might find it so effective that he’ll never burgle a shed again!

  1. Might as well just leave the door unlocked so they don't break the window. Police obviously aren't going to do anything to prevent crime, so why not minimize property damage.

  2. It will get worse. Criminals by their actions have demonstrated that they have no respect for the law.
The actions of the government and police will create an atmosphere in which the average law abiding citizen will lose respect for the law also and the consequences of this will come in the form of vigilantes and even attacks on the government and their most visible representatives, the police.

    Anarchy will follow.
