Doofus Of The Day #894

Today’s award goes to a distracted driver in Baltimore.

Just before 9 a.m. this morning, Baltimore County Police and Fire personnel responded to the 100 block of Allegheny Avenue in Towson for a crash.

An Audi Q5 fell out of the fourth floor of a parking garage and landed upside down on the sidewalk. The driver, a woman in her early 20s, was in the car when it fell, but she was not seriously injured. She was transported to Sinai Hospital for treatment.

There’s more at the link.

Here’s security camera footage of the accident.  You only need to watch the first 30 seconds or so – the rest is just people trying to help. There’s no sound, so don’t adjust your speakers’ volume.

I’d say the young lady was very lucky not to be more seriously hurt.  Hopefully in future she won’t confuse her accelerator with her brake, or forward gear with reverse . . .

  1. Woman Driver that says it all like the one i was behind in a long line of Traffic this afternoon useing the rear view mirror to re do her make up did she jump when i use my horn to let her know all the cars in front of her had moved forwards about 75yds and what is it with women when they have woman pasenger why do they have to look at her when they are talking to her i could go on but that will do for now.

  2. She's quite fortunate that it landed the way it did…Mostly on one end, then bouncing to the other, before finally coming to a relatively gentle rest on the roof. Had it landed flat on the roof, without preliminary impacts….

  3. It's an Audi. She will blame the car. Just like all those other people did. Then settle out of court.

  4. Equal opportunity. I have been a salesman for almost 40 years, spending much time on all kinds of roads. I have seen women backing up and going the wrong way in a traffic circle. I have been rear-ended twice (June 2008 and October 2015 by women in heavy traffic on Interstates) by inattentive women drivers. But I have seen men do stupid stuff, too: one brushing his teeth on I-495 (DC beltway), another near my house (near Baltimore) putting in his contact lens. Both were moving at a steady speed as if this was normal.

I have increasingly seen people of all types on their cell phones, in a state (Maryland) in which doing so is a primary offense (no other reason needed to be pulled over). It is getting more common to see totally distracted drivers. The company I work for has banned the use of any electronic device in our company vehicles while in motion, hand-held or hands-free. Want to make or take a call? Pull over. Set your GPS? Pull over. Don't like the policy? Quit or be fired when caught.
