Having just looked at some thoroughly bad science (see the post below this one), I thought it might be useful to remove the nasty taste from my mouth with some of the good stuff. Here’s the BBC’s Braniacs demonstrating what happens when you put alkali metals into water.

I believe francium would be the next metal on the list, but it's very expensive.
If you do get ahold of some Francium, use it quiickly! It has a half-life of, at best, 23 minutes.
For some reason I did not do well in Chemistry class and quit. Look at what I missed. Darn it. 🙂
That was hilarious! I love the host; With all of the British he could muster, he made the imminent Blowing Up of Stuff seem so natural.

One might think, after watching the explosions caused by rubidium and cesium, that sodium and potassium in water would not be dangerous, but that would be a lye.
