Looks to me as if the flying fish were us, with the democrats below and the rebups above.
Screwed either way.
The first time I saw a real live flying fish, I was amazed at how far they could glide. It is also ironic that at the time I was watching them from the bridge of the USS Flying Fish SSN673.

It is, though, the common life of just about all small fish. In the fall months around here, we get massive shoals of bait fish migrating south down the coast. They're under almost constant attack from below and above. Other times of year, when they're not in the massive shoals, they still get attacked. They're just harder to find and isolate.
