It seems New Zealanders are a lot like us . . .

The 2011 Rugby World Cup is currently under way in New Zealand. We don’t play much rugby here in the USA (although, as a former South African, I’ve had plenty of exposure to it); but it seems New Zealand is just as motor-sports-mad as the USA, judging by this video clip of various incidents of mayhem and mechanical discombobulation.

Yep . . . I reckon a good ol’ Southern Redneck would feel right at home there!

  1. Man! I miss the Parramatta Speedway Sprintcar races on Friday nights. Back in the 80s and 90s, it was my main entertainment. Between blown sprintcars, methanol prototypes, fender benders and giant burnouts, I coldn't pick which would get us the better excuse for some serious imbibing!

You haven't lived until you watch a methanol super-charged V8 blow a couple of pistons 50 yards straight up through the hood, or a pile-up of 20 sprintcars on the first turn with one of them jumping the fence while the spectators scatter at a high clip!

Anon: those chute things are spoilers, or ailerons, depending what you call them in your neck of the woods. They're supposed to help keep the rear wheels down on the wet clay track surface.
The operative word here is "supposed"…
