Quote of the day

From Rev. Paul, in a post titled ‘Differences Between North and South‘:

If you do settle in the South and bear children, don’t think they’ll necessarily be accepted as Southerners … at least not right away. After all, if the cat had kittens in the oven, you wouldn’t call ’em biscuits.

  1. It's always been a point of contention about when, exactly, transplanted Northerners become Southerners. Most folks believe 3rd generation; I figured if the 2nd generation grows up & works locally, that's good enough. 🙂

  2. @ Rev. Paul: But what about me? I came to this country from South Africa – what you might call the really deep South. Does that make me an 'extreme Southerner'?

  3. Well that's the difference between northerners and southerners….northerners wouldn't let the cat have kittens in the oven….

  4. Speaking of wbich– I knew a guy in high school, born here, parents white S. African emigrants. We were somewhere filling out "official" paperwork when when he was asked the 'race' question, by a black clerk. Imagin the look when he answered 'African-American'…..and proved it!
