Back in January, I wrote about a car that had launched itself from a highway in Germany and landed in the roof of a church. In a comment to that post, Bob asked, “Wonder if there will be copycats? It might become a craze.”
Would you believe he was right?
The holidaymaker and his wife had been driving in the hills near Marbella, in Spain, drinking in the view. Then came the pièce de résistance.
As he drove round a bend, the driver, in his sixties, is thought to have pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.
And instead of slowing down, his rented Ford Focus sped through a wall, left the road… and took flight.
It landed about 30ft down the hill, embedded in the outside stairwell of an apartment block.
And, just as 007 would have done, the couple emerged, unscathed, to the astonishment of police and paramedics. ‘They fell from such a height I thought at first part of a plane had fallen out of the sky,’ said an onlooker.
‘The fact the couple inside walked away without serious injury defies logical explanation.’
I note with trepidation that the first incident was in Germany, and the second in Spain. They’re spreading Westwards, folks! How long before they reach the USA? Or are they here already, and we’ve simply missed the reports?

Built Ford Tough!
A local giggle here. In the last few weeks, two cars have “launched themselves” and ended up inside a local house.
But it was the SAME HOUSE on both occasions. What are the odds?
Road ice, elederly driver and other possible causes.
A proper guard rail has been promised to the hapless householders.
Maybe he thought he was driving a Porch!
