Sounds like a Wacken good time was had by all concerned

The Wacken Open Air heavy metal music festival is held every year in Germany.  Some 75,000 metalheads came to the party this year – and the organizers made sure they had the right stuff to promote a party spirit.

Wacken Open Air Festival [constructed] a 7-kilometer [more than four mile] network of pipes to quench its thirsty fans. Attendees will drink an average of 5.1 liters of beer each over the festival.

The new pipeline will carry about 400,000 liters (105,000 gallons) of beer through the grounds of Wacken Open Air Festival in northern Germany.

The 75,000 metal fans who attend the event each year consume an average of about 5.1 liters [about one and a third US gallons] of beer over the three-day festival, according to the statistics portal Statista. This compares to 3.1 liters per person for the Rock am Ring Festival.

. . .

The new pipeline will have enough pressure to pour six beers in six seconds.

Police said the fans of Wacken drink a lot but are “mostly overexcited and peaceful.”

Here’s the publicity trailer for this year’s festival.  You can see daily reports on proceedings on the festival’s YouTube channel.

With all that beer in circulation, it sure sounds like a Wacken good time was had by all!

  1. Dave Barry's blog (which I highly recommend, by the way) linked to a story that two elderly German gentlemen "escaped" from their nursing home and went to this festival. When they were discovered missing from the home, a search was conducted and they were found at the festival. They refused to be removed by police, and only left when personnel from the nursing home arrived in a taxi and escorted them back.
    Good for the old guys!

  2. Let's hope they have similarly impressive logistic systems for dealing with the beer after consumption!

  3. Looks like/sounds like/"tastes" like the Metallhead-Moosick-Konzert version of OktoberFest (which is located in Munich, of course, and "happens" largely in September [despite the name]} – und zo: another huge, rowdy, Germanic-centralized "get-together" dedicated around Get Blasted/Wasted On Beer & Wine, Consume Much Food, Sing, Dance, Generally-Carouse, Etc…this one centered around "heavy-metal" rock n' roll music, and the over-the-top playing of same – unlike Oktoberfest, which is more-or-less centered around a huge carnival, and mostly-attracts a much broader population demographic…

Seems like, no matter exactly what their preferences run-to in entertainment form(s), those Germans definitely love, Luv, LOOOVE!! to stage Rilly Beeg Partiez…

    FUN!
