Sunday morning music

I don’t like everything Roberta Flack‘s recorded, but some of her love songs have been truly iconic, and have given me real listening pleasure over the years.  (It’s really hard to believe she’s now 84 years old!)  Here’s a brief selection of the best-known among them.

First, possibly my favorite of her songs:  “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face“.

Here’s “Let It Be Me“.

Another classic, and my second-favorite of her songs:  “Killing Me Softly“.

And finally, a duet with Peabo Bryson:  “Tonight I Celebrate My Love“.

Sometimes a song expresses emotion and feeling to perfection.  Roberta Flack does that very well.

  1. I remember buying her first LP. What a lovely voice. I will have to see if I can get a CD of the same album. (Back when they were albums…)
Talented in many ways, she is a remarkable singer.
    Thank you for the reminder.

  2. I can't listen to "Killing Me Softly" without then going and listening to Don McLean's "American Pie".

  3. At the time that it was popular, I thought that the words were "Killing me softly with Islam". Listen to it, and tell me that you don't hear that.
