It is to laugh – for some people, anyway. The (very) small town of Uranus, Missouri, has a new newspaper.
“The Uranus Examiner.”
That’s the name Natalie Sanders, the managing editor, announced Wednesday afternoon.
“We had thought about Constitution, but most of our, the people who love us, and who were part of coming up with the name, liked the ‘examiner’ better,” Sanders said.”

After Sanders’ announcement Wednesday afternoon, Waynesville Mayor Luge Hardman stood up and asked for the microphone.
“No. I’m sorry. But, the innuendo of that title puts my city up for public ridicule, and I will not be a part of it,” Hardman said.

“I think that the Pulaski County Examiner would have been a real hit, and I don’t believe it would’ve been a problem for the cities,” Hardman said. “But if you’re going to place this innuendo on your name, it’s not going to fly, at least for the city of Waynesville and the City of St. Robert.”

It turns out the unincorporated town – owned in its entirety by one person – has a history of playing on its name for comic effect. One advertising example, from a T-shirt: “Uranus Brake Repair – Keeping skid marks out of Uranus”. I suppose the new paper is in keeping with that tradition.
On the other hand, maybe they’ve got religion. Maybe they’re trying to be “hole-ier than thou” . . .

I see it's located just outside Ft. Leonard Wood, or Ft. Lost in the Woods as we used to call it, where I took basic training back in '68.
There is literally an open position to be a fudge packer.

What, exactly, does Mr. Hardman think he can do about it. He can't prohibit the sale of the paper and if it's privately owned, he has no say in what they call it.
They need to have some sort of "about town" column called the Uranus Insider.
I s'pose it could'a been the "Uranus Probe."
That reminds me of the Honorable Harry W Baals a long time mayor
of Fort Wayne Indiana. The citizens overwhelmingly voted to name
a new civic center after Harry Baals. The city council overruled
the citizens.
