Gangs and the threat they pose

Following the publicity generated by the motorcycle gang clash in Waco, Texas last weekend, Survival Blog has put up a three-part article on gangs that contains some useful information.  Follow these links:

The articles don’t go into much detail, but provide a good overview.  For more information, see:

There are many other resources on the Web, not all of which are as good as others.  A quick Internet search will reveal many more links.

I ran into a lot of gangs and gang members during my work as a prison chaplain.  Gangs are probably in your area.  There are few where they aren’t.  Forewarned is forearmed.

  1. My experience with biker gangs is that the individuals may be ok people on their own, but when gathered in a group, even a small one, look out!
They are very tribal oriented. I guess that sort of person is what is attracted to the bike gang.

I worked with one who was the pres or vp of a branch, in So Jersey, 40 some years ago. He was the manager of a landfill. Nice guy. (Under indictment for some type of killing, IIRC.) Think about the usefulness of having access to that sort of place for a gang…

True, but the same can be said of Liberal Intellectuals, except that most of those are physical cowards.

Regarding the FBI on Gangs, I would hesitate to take too seriously a government organization that seriously lists the fans of Insane Clown Posse as a gang. Stupid, yes. Tiresome, yes. Criminal enterprise? That would seem to be somebody making up his numbers and justifying his budget.

  3. As a rule, unless you are in a Biker bar or their clubhouse or other "Private" territory, you'll find most 1%ers to be decent and well behaved. You aren't worth the trouble they can get into, really.

Now, make no mistake, you can easily find trouble, should you go looking for it. But if you treat them as you would anyone else, they'll treat you the same way.

    But don't poke the bear…..

  4. One of the things that separate the 1% bikers from the rest is that most motorcyclists are not group type people. Like trying to herd cats, for the most part. At least that is my observation.

  5. I preferred serving booze to bikers and pot-heads; they kept their hands to themselves and watched their language. God spare me cowboys and Shriners. The absolute worst was a cowboy who swapped his stetson for a fez!
