Amid all the economic doom and gloom, there are nevertheless signs that some people still have money, and aren’t afraid to spend it. From Singapore comes the news that a single bottle of Dalmore 62, one of the rarest single malt whiskies in the world from Dalmore Distillery in Scotland, has just been sold through a duty-free shop at Changi airport. Business Insider reports:
The [US] $194,000 bottle is reportedly one of the most expensive ever sold, and is one of 12 bottles of its kind in the world.
When the man saw the bottle on display, he made a bank transfer of $100,000 and placed the down payment on it.
The Dalmore 62 was part of a special promotion called “Master of Spirits” aimed at connoisseurs. It will remain on display in a glass case at the shop until paid in full.
There’s more at the link. (Note that the $250,000 sign in the display case in the photograph is denominated in Singapore dollars, not US dollars.)
However, if you’re in despair that the last available bottle of Dalmore 62 has been snapped up, you needn’t worry: the distillery is about to bottle precisely three bottles of Dalmore 64. Each will be sold for £100,000 [about US $154,000] by the distillery . . . which means they should fetch double that after a year or so!
What was that old saying about having more money than sense?
Peter
Sorry, but I'll stick to "Ripple" thank you!
If I had the money and could buy one of those straight from the distillery, I would. Great investment. 😉
