One nagging wife for sale – ‘very high maintenance, some rust’!

Oh, dear. This doesn’t fit very well with my recent three articles on marriage and staying married, does it?

A builder was so fed up with his wife’s nagging that he put her up for sale in a trade magazine – getting “nine or 10” offers.

After the latest blast from wife Donna while she was watching Dancing on Ice, Gary Bates, 38, snapped and placed an advert in Trade-It.

His ad said: “Nagging Wife. No Tax, Not MOT. Very high maintenance – some rust.”

Mrs Bates, 40, from Ebley, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, was put in the Free to Collect section of the magazine – the same section he advertised his fishing tackle.

Mr Bates, a self-employed builder, was inundated with calls from men offering to take her off his hands.

“I didn’t think anyone would ring up but I’ve had at least nine or 10 people calling about her. It’s gone mad. There was no one I knew – just people asking, ‘Is she still available?'”

Mrs Bates said today she did not think she did nag.

“I don’t think I do nag him – we’re newly weds. He just doesn’t do what I want him to, that’s all.”

She added: “Revenge will be sweet though, and I’ve got something planned for him soon.”

Uh-oh. I suggest Mr. Bates should be hunting for the nearest bomb-shelter!
